After years of procrastination, I finally completed the process of applying for a pistol permit. Part of that process was a mandatory gun safety course. While the class was informative on the pistol permit application aspects, I do not believe it should be considered a safety course. Only the 10 basic gun safety rules were discussed during the two-hour class. The instructors even said that we should make sure we knew how to use our individual firearms and ask the local store if there were any classes. I think dry gun training would be a great tool for beginners to get used to their guns and possible new purchases. With today's social distance and the cost of ammunition, it makes practical sense to have dry fire training on the rise. Dry firing allows firearms owners to practice without expensive ammunition.
